The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Full-Length Commentary by Basicc (with intro)

Basicc’s unofficial commentary of The Hunger Games Catching Fire, the second installment in The Hunger Games franchise created by Suzanne Collins.

Basicc’s first full length commentary ever was done on The Hunger Games first installment, he has since done over two dozen full length commentaries.

And after several other commentaries later, Basicc returns to analyze the follow up Hunger Games installment, Catching Fire.

This is one of Basicc’s longest works, running almost 3 hours as it contains the full feature movie as well as a 20-minute intro with montages from The Hunger Games films. Basicc uses his intro to explain the propaganda in the film and also show how the story and character development are as weak and unoriginal as in the first one.

He sees the film as Gladiator set in a dystopian high school. The Hunger Games Catching Fire had an incredibly large budget of 130 million to produce what Basicc shows is nothing more than a cheap propaganda film with nothing intriguing happening throughout. He also explains why the film is so popular to validate his claim that people really don’t like it just because they pay to see it and then maybe to be nice say they like it in a survey giving them free popcorn.

Though painfully similar to the first Hunger Games, Catching Fire was directed by Francis Lawrence and not Gary Ross this time around. And, this time, the screenplay was not written in part by the creator of The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins, the screenplay is now by Simon Beaufoy and Michael Arndt as Michael deBruyn.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne playing his usual abused-because-he-resists character, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, playing his usual drunk character, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, playing his usual boring, sympathetic, one note meak male character, Willow Shields as Primrose Everdeen, playing her usual one-note screaming character, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, playing her usual one-note 1930’s celebrity character, Lenny Kravitz, playing his usual one-note character of Cinna, Donald Sutherland as the still unexplained President Snow, Stanley Tucci as the one-note celeb tv show spokesman, Caesar Flickerman.

The Hunger Games Catching Fire introduces Jack Quaid as Marvel, Amanda Plummer as Wiress, Jena Malone as Johanna Mason, and Philip Seymour Hoffman in his lamest role to date, as Plutarch Heavensbee, replacing the now deceased Wes Bentley as head game maker in Panem. Enjoy Basicc’s scathing commentary of Catching Fire. Also enjoy his parody teaser and trailer for the film, as well as his scathing commentary of the first Hunger Games.
